TIGA Publishes Guidance Note on European Commission’s Digital Single Market Strategy

By March 30, 2016 Press Releases

TIGA, the network for games developers and digital publishers and the trade association representing the UK video games industry, has collaborated with leading law firm Stevens & Bolton to produce guidance regarding the European Commission’s Digital Single Market Strategy and the impact this could have on TIGA’s members.

Dr Richard Wilson, TIGA CEO, said:

“Many UK video games developers sell their games online all over the world. The European Commission’s Digital Single Market Strategy could have implications for games developers. I am therefore grateful to Stevens & Bolton for working with TIGA to produce a guidance note on the Commission’s Digital Single Market Strategy for TIGA members.”

Gustaf Duhs, partner and head of Stevens & Bolton’s Competition and Regulatory practice, said:

“The European Commission’s Digital Single Market Strategy is a very significant initiative and is likely to have considerable impact on providers of consumer goods and digital content in the EU. The anticipated changes have the potential to put an end to, or reduce the importance of, national markets, and help to create a seamless market for the online sale of goods and services (including digital goods and services) across the EU. Whether this is welcome will very much depend on perspective. Games industry participants should monitor developments carefully and consider the impact on their business practices.”
