TIGA calls for developers’ response to Patent Survey

By November 27, 2012 Press Releases

TIGA is putting out the call for developers to respond to
a survey on patents, which examines the problem of patent trolls, patent
infringements, and the potential for innovation deadlock whereby the
combination of various technologies to create new single products is prevented
by the spread of many small patents amongst different rights holders.

Make your voice heard in this important survey and help
pave the way for the future of the games industry. The issues of aggressive
intellectual property protection could affect every developer as part of any
game development company, big or small. The survey is short and simple, with
just 12 questions and multiple choice answers. Get involved and help TIGA
promote the UK industry at the highest levels of policy.

Dr Richard Wilson, TIGA CEO said:

“Patents can help to promote innovation and
encourage investment, but recent years have seen some worrying developments:
patent trolls; the acquisition of patents for defensive purposes to pre-empt
the risk of litigation; and large sums being paid out for infringements of
patents, which diverts money away from investment in R&D. I hope as many
games businesses as possible will take part in this survey and so enable TIGA
to represent the views of the industry effectively to policy makers.”

You can contribute to this important survey regardless of
your TIGA membership status. Inclusion of the points of view of all sectors of
the games industry is important to help build a rich and vibrant development
environment in Britain.
