GameCity: Stewart Gilray unveils Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD and Lorne Lanning delivers his verdict

GameCity, the videogames festival, will be holding the next GameCityNights on Thursday 28th April. The night is the monthly after-dark exploration into videogames culture featuring Stranger’s Wrath HD this month. It takes place at Antenna, Beck Street, NG1 1EQ on April 28th, from 6-11pm. For ticket information, see below.

Fans of Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath can rejoice that the long overdue update is complete and will be unveiled at Episode 4 of GameCityNights by Stewart Gilray, CEO of Just Add Water, the team responsible for reinvigorating the last Oddworld title.

From 6pm, Gilray will deliver this month’s Frontend section, delving into the life of a studio head, from his early beginnings to the daily challenge of leading a team of talented developers.

The main event of the evening follows at 8pm as Gilray presents Stranger’s Wrath with updated, HD visuals. Charting the process of adding shiny bells and whistles to an already brilliant looking game, fans will see the progression from start to finish.

In a distinctly Orwellian moment, Oddworld creator Lorne Lanning will be the eye-in-the-sky as he casts a glance over his original creation as this month’s ‘From the Desk of’ guest, as well as discussing the series’ past, present and future.

As ever, GameCityNights will also feature the very best indie developers showcasing their work alongside the latest AAA titles, comedian Paul Butler’s Augmented Vision and A Winner Is You prize competition with generous contributions from Capcom and Square Enix.

Gamecity’s aim is to bring together developers and the public to explore and celebrate videogames and videogames culture, with a particular focus on students. They attract high quality speakers, offer up-and-coming artists and developers a platform for their games and create unique events.

Some of GameCity’s greatest hits include a world-record breaking zombie gathering, Keita Takahashi designing a children’s playground and Masaya Matsuura, Lorne Lanning, Alexey Pajitnov and Media Molecule having headlined.

GameCityNights take place every month at Antenna in Nottingham, Beck Street, NG1 1EQ. Entry is strictly 18+ only, tickets £5 in advance and for students, £6 on the door for the general public. Due to limited capacity, pre-booking is advised. Please go to www.gamecity.org for details.

To book space to discuss your favourite game with My Game or demo your work on the preview screens, email GameCity PR Coordinator, Chris White, chris@gamecity.org
