Goldsmith University: Talk by famous Oliver Twins

DESCRIPTION

Philip and Andrew rose to fame as the ‘Oliver Twins’ in the 1980s when they developed the ‘Simulator’ series and ‘Dizzy’ games which became one of the most famous video game characters of the 1980.

As it’s first hit it, helped establish Codemasters. They recently received a Guinness Book of Records for ‘most prolific 8-bit game developers in the world’, having developed an amazing 25 Amstrad games, 17 Spectrum games & 11 NES games – 26 of those became #1 bestsellers generating around five million sales, and at one point representing over 15% of all UK games sales.

They founded Blitz Games in 1990 and built it into one of the largest and most successful UK Game development Studios until 2013, when they set up Radiant Worlds with co-founder Richard Smithies which has recently been sold to Rebellion. They continue to lead the Rebellion Warwick team and have a passion for inspiring the next generation of game developers.

Their latest game release is ‘Strange Brigade’ – released in August on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

The talk entitled a “Lessons from 4 decades of game development”, charts their career in the Games Industry, Talking through their journey developing games over the years, and discussing what lessons they have learnt, why things are the way they are and where they think they are going next.
